love, janis
The hubs and I caught the musical "Love, Janis" on Saturday night in San Francisco, wow what a show! The acting and singing were incredible, if you closed your eyes it was almost like Janis was there. Hearing her story and how she found herself in San Francisco reminded me of why I love this city so much. There is definitely a part of me that wishes I'd been born earlier, living here in the 60's seeing all of these amazing musicians live at the Fillmore, the Winterland or Avalon Ballroom. Those were the days when the musical history of this city was at its peak (in my opinion anyway).
Since I couldn't be at those shows these posters let me imagine what it would have been like. This great site Wolfgangs Vault sells vintage posters, photos and even tickets from these shows. The graphic artists at that time were clearly tapped into the psychedelic movement, one of my favorites is Wes Wilson. But seriously, can you imagine seeing the Grateful Dead and Otis Redding at the Fillmore? DY-NO-MITE!
